Calatrava in Dallas

Architecture in Motion

Santiago Calatrava’s Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge spans the Trinity River near downtown Dallas and has become a defining feature of the city’s skyline. Its soaring single arch and precisely arranged suspension cables create an elegant sense of balance and weightlessness, making the roadway appear to float above the river. I created this series using a custom camera rig mounted inside my car, photographing the structure from an upward perspective as I travelled across the bridge. From this viewpoint, the arch and cables intersected in continually changing configurations, producing striking geometric patterns with every crossing. By experimenting with a range of shutter speeds, I explored how motion, light, and structural rhythm could transform an iconic piece of infrastructure into a sequence of dynamic abstract images.
