Iceland

A Land of Glaciers, Fire and Ice

A landscape shaped by glaciers and icebergs, Iceland is a place of extraordinary contrasts and elemental beauty. This series follows the southern coast from the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula in the west to Sólheimajökull glacier, Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon and Diamond Beach, where fragments of ancient ice rest like sculpted glass upon the black volcanic sand. During my visit, the fog never fully lifted; instead, it transformed the landscape into an ethereal world of softened forms, muted tones and quiet drama.

At the glacier, Iceland’s volcanic history is recorded in dark layers of ash embedded within the ice. Icebergs drift slowly across the still water towards the sea, carrying these traces of fire through a frozen landscape. At Diamond Beach, the fog gathered more densely, while the low grey light and jet-black sand gave each translucent shard of ice greater depth, texture and sculptural presence.
